Broad rectilinear bands cross and intersect, building a grid that seems to hold together an incandescent core. At the center, the textured yellows and oranges gather into a luminous nucleus, surrounded by calmer blues that open up the space. John Beckley heightens this tension between structure and effervescence through the contrast between dark surfaces and bright flashes, evoking embers. In places, fine white splashes animate the surface and give it a vibration. The whole retains something very constructed, while allowing a lively energy to circulate in the midst of the colored fragments.
