Nine blue vertical bands structure the surface and give the composition a musical rhythm. Each band has its own inner life: flashes of turquoise, darker passages, violet or milky areas that overlap and blend, as if the color had been pulled, scraped away, then stopped abruptly. The gray background, worked by John Beckley with curves, diffuse traces, and a dotted pattern, remains discreet but creates a depth that makes these luminous columns vibrate. The irregular edges of the bands, sometimes thicker, sometimes more tapered, introduce a tension between order and movement. Everything plays out in this alternation of geometric rigor and colored matter in motion, which gives the whole its magnetic energy.
