A broad sweep of blue, crossed by colorful arcs rising in a fan shape: the composition is built on these expansive gestures that seem to run from one edge to the other. John Beckley layers opaque curves with others that are more translucent, revealing passages of green, yellow or purple beneath and creating a very fluid depth. Black or luminous outlines emphasize certain edges and give these abstract veils a musical rhythm. On closer inspection, one discovers fine striations, traces of movement that animate the surface. The whole retains a light energy, carried by the contrast between the luminous sky and the density of the layered colors.
