Adrift unfolds a long fragmented colorful trajectory across four panels, which the eye follows like a movement interrupted in the middle of its momentum. John Beckley organizes the composition around a luminous central band, made of turquoise and orange blocks, animated by white splashes and black lines. All around, the violet, pink and orange backgrounds shift into deep gradients, crossed by fine curves and hatched areas that create an impression of vibration. On closer inspection, one discovers a surface rich in projections and overlays, where every drop and every line reinforces the energy of the whole. The painting then seems to oscillate between tension and fluidity, suspended in a continuous movement.
